Choosing a small-sized guitar is best to start your child with. Take them to a

\ntoo expensive to start with, like under $150. Also, the type of strings is very important
\ntoo otherwise they will complain about their fingers hurting when they hold down strings.
\nI recommend nylon strings or a hybrid nylon\/steel string for beginners. Also, I\u2019ve
\nobserved over my years teaching, that kids need to be a bit older to succeed in guitar,
\nsince it takes more effort to play a note than piano. I recommend starting at age 10, and
\nno younger than age 8. Any younger, and the ukulele is best to start with to get them
